What you will demonstrate

Prepare like the role is already yours.

  • Produces hypothesis-driven examinations, physical therapist diagnoses, prognoses, functional goals, and individualized plans of care.
  • Uses history, systems review, symptom behavior, vital signs, movement observation, functional tasks, valid tests and measures, and patient-reported outcomes with appropriate safeguards.
  • Partners effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and the people who support daily mobility and participation.
  • Balances pain and symptom behavior, range, strength, endurance, balance, gait, transfer, activity tolerance, confidence, and participation.
  • Guards against loading before screening red flags or physiologic instability, treating one impairment instead of the person and task, using passive care without a progression plan, confusing pain with damage, selecting measures without decision value, missing meaningful nonprogress, documenting exercises instead of skilled reasoning, delegating PT decisions outside PTA scope, or practicing beyond current competence, jurisdiction, payer, or setting rules.
